Fairy Tales and Forgotten Dreams

Original Creations by Heather West

A few of my favorite things....

These are some of the wonderful folks out there who also sculpt in polymer clay, or do other kinds of arts or crafting that you might enjoy. Please take a look around their sites.

Holliday Happiness

We're full swing into the holliday season now, with Thanksgiving right around the corner, and Christmans, Yule, Hannukah, and the Solstice right on it's heels.  Before you know it, it'll be 2010!

The ACS Shop at Work went very well.  I had a great time, just like last year. I'm really looking forward to next year.  I made some new friends, and just generally had fun.

As usual, though, I still have plenty of stuf left over! I"m working right now on creating a page on this site to list it all for sale- so please pop in again and take a look!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder....

July, August, and September are now behind us, and I"m not entirely sure where they went!

Current news:  I have two pieces showing in Spirit Gallery in it's new location in New London, CT. It's an amazing new space, and the show is filled with amazing artists. I was blown away by the entire show.  It's a fantasy/science fiction art show, heavy on the fantasy.  I am one of only two 3-D artists showing in this show.

Upcoming news- In November I will once again be participating in the 'Shop at Work" at ACS in Utica, NY.  I'm busily crafting away, and most of it isn't fantasy based. There will be several fantasy items available, but most of it is holiday oriented.  Following the "Shop at Work" event, I will be listing any unsold merchandise on the website.  And as always, I am pleased to acceptn commision work.  I do already have a few commissions lined up for the holiday season, so if you are looking for something for this holiday, pleae contact me right away.

I am starting to recieve information on the various fantasy/sci-fi conventions taking place in the NorthEast region in 2010. As I decide which ones I wish to participate in, and recieve confirmation of my participation, I will list them here- so please pay attention.

I hope that your harvest season brings all the bounty of life to you! Thanks for stopping by!

The Magical Month of June

Wow! May flew by in a blur!  Now all of a sudden it's June, and in fact as I write this, June is almost over already!

Happy birthday to my beautiful and beloved Pixie Princess- my daughter, who turned 5 this month.

Happy birthday to ME! I turned 31 this month. Unbelievable isn't it? I swear I was just 20 yesterday...

I am in full swing preparing for a couple of shows I've agreed to be in this year, and I am preparing my schedule for next year as well.  I am really going to be trying to get my fairies and jewelery some greater exposure.  Someone out there may be missing a fairy that happens to have found his or her way to me by accident! What a shame if they couldn't find them because no one knows who I am- LOL!

Also, news for June-

June 24th is Fairy Day! For more information, please visit http://www.fairyday.com/

Also, the weekend of June 25th through 27th is the NYS FaeryFestival, in Harpursville, NY.  I'm hoping to get more information on this festival for next year- but this year I didn' hear about them until too late!

Have a happy and safe June, and I'll update again in July!

April Showers

Spring is in full swing where I live- some days it almost feels like summer! It's unbelievable that we've already had temperatures in the 90's. After all, this is Central NY, not Florida. I'm not complaining, though. Higher temperatures actually makes sculpting easier in some ways.  The clay is softer and easier to condition, cutting down on the amount of time and effort spend kneading.  On the other hand, a more delicate touch is needed, to avoid smushed body parts and blurred details.

I returned to working full time with my "second family" this month, which means that I have less time for sculpting my art dolls and jewelery, but I am not giving it up entirely. However, this means that the fairies will be fewer and farther between- so grab them when they become available!

Also this month, as you can see, I have revamped my website with a new layout and color scheme. I hope you like my new, updated look.

Don't forget to stop by and sign my new guest book, too!

 Have a happy spring, everyone!

Marching On...

It appears that Spring really is here, even in Central NY! Who'd have thought??

To celebrate spring, I have started having my work carried at The Jade Fox, in New York Mills, NY.  So far it seems to be a successful venture, with fairies and jewelery having been sold already! This is exciting and fun, as it brings a whole new realm of ideas into play, as Judy at the Jade Fox tells me what the customers say, and we see what sells well.

Enjoy Spring- my next Work in Progress will be all about Spring, and playing in the warm sunshine, with a bit of humor added in for fun.

Is it Spring yet??

This time of year always brings with it a desperate case of Spring Fever.  In that spirit, my first dreamworld is inspired in equal measure by my daughter (who is my very own real life Pixie Princess) and the upcoming season of spring. This is a contest entry on the best  and most helpful doll artist forum in the whole world, One of A Kind Doll Art (ODA).

Dreamworlds are an artform primarily seen in the Netherlands and Belgium, but I can see them becoming ever more popular on the worldwide scale very soon- they are such a fun way to excercise the imagination. Much like art dolls, they can go wherever the artist's imagination takes them.

I've also finished a project that's been in my mind for quite a while, a Butterfly Koi Mermaid. I truly believe she's my best doll ever. As I type this, she's on e-bay, so make sure to stop by her auction page and take a look.

One other new devlopement this month, I now have some of my work available at The Jade Fox, a store on Main Street in New York Mills.  Stop by and visit Judy, take a look around at all the fascinating things in that store.

A New Year

As 2009 begins, I am working toward expanding my artistic horizons. I've set up a new jewelery gallery page, launched an even dozen auctions of my jewelery creations, and also created both a current Work in Progress page and a Former WIP page with albums of my previous works in progress.

To start the Current Work in Progress page off, I am showing step by step as I go along, the creation of "The White Child", AKA "Sebhran, A Child of No Woman".  This is an ambitous project for me, sending me on an artistic journey of pushing my limits and really learning some new techniques.  Wow, that sounds more impressive and pretentious than it really is!

As I finish Sebhran, I'll be diving into my Dreamworlds, and I look forward to introducing them to you.

A Dream World in Progress:

It's Beginning to Look Alot Like Christmas....

With Christmas 2008 fast approaching, I am very busy both on commissioned peices, and on gifts I am making to give from myself. This is a very busy time of year, this year more than most.

I do have some new products that I will be listing for sale in the upcoming weeks, following Christmas, including a new line of dragon figurines, called Dragon Doodles- each one is a unique and charming creation straight from my own mind and hands. They are extremely popular with children of all ages.

I've also been playing a lot more with jewelery, and will be creating a new page with examples of my custom beads, which can be combined into necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. I will have examples of jewelery created from a combination of my custom beads and "off the shelf" beads to show.  All jewelery will be done on a custom, commissioned basis for the most part.

In the new year, I will also be exploring a new artform, well new to me, called Dream Worlds. These are very popular in the Netherlands and surrounding area. I am fortunate enough to belong to the Ooak Doll Art (ODA) online community, where I have been seeing some of the most wonderful ideas from international artists. Dream Words come from that enriching community, and I am excited to begin my exploration of that process beginning in January, after the holiday rush has faded.

The goings on in dream land.. .

November 2008

Recently I just hosted a table at ACS in Utica's "Shop at Work" fair. It was a fun day of meeting people and other crafters, and showing and selling my wares. Following that was an impromptu mini fair (meaning only my crafts) at MCA in New York Mills. All of my wares were met with much admiration, and even some sales! Thank you to everyone who helped me get ready, to everyone who showed up, and to everyone who bought something!
